Summer is in full swing but before you know it, the leaves will be falling and your kids will be marching off to school. But if your child had a difficult school year, you will need to take some additional steps to ensure that this upcoming year is a successful one. Today, Parents Ask experts Dr. Ann Corwin, Dr. Foster Cline and Susan Stiffelman give tips on how to prepare your child for their school year and how to help determine where they need support.
Foster Cline:
-Help your child with homework
-Create a quite workspace
-Your happiness and attitude is critical
Susan Stiffelman:
-Have a conversation with your child about what their challenges were for previous year
-Make sure you've made sure there aren't any medical or behavioral issues that are preventing your child from learning, such as the need for glasses
Ann Corwin:
-Over summer months, children can regress
-Get involved and engage them through play
-Encourage reading
-Set up play dates with classmates to help child practice with social skills
