Summer time is here! And now that you're a parent, being "pool ready" isn't just about being bikini ready either! Nope. It's time to make sure you're brushed up on your pool safety rules, and that includes sun protection too. Today, our experts Cara Natterson, MD, author of Dangerous or Safe?, Stacia Woodcock, a Walgreens Pharmacist, and Holly Perkins, fitness expert and author of The 20 Minute Sweat, share some of their summer safety tips.

Cara Natterson, MD- Pool Rules:
-One adult per child in the water
-Small kids/ New swimmers must have adults IN the water with them
-Give swimmers your undivided attention
-Limit access with gates and pool covers
-Kid must know they can NEVER swim without proper supervision
Stacia Woodcock, Walgreens Pharmacist-Sun Protectection:
-Use SPF of at least 30
-Apply 1/2 hour before sun exposure
-Get in hard to reach places like ears, back of neck, top of head
-Don't forget your lips! They need protection too
-Reapply every half hour!
Holly Perkins, Fitness expert- Hydration is Key!
-It IS okay to swim after a light meal- in fact you want to keep your kid fueled
-Schedule food and water breaks every 15-20 minutes;
-Watch for signs of dehydration (fatigue, lethargy, or confusion).
-Teaching these important summertime rules you're ensuring safety and fun!
