It may sound old fashioned, but believe it or not, many parents, when pushed to their limit, threaten their children with sleep when they misbehave. However, Parents Ask expert Dr. Ann Corwin explains the damage that can be done by using bedtime as a means of punishment.
Bedtime should always be about comforting children and making sure they feel safe. So if you use bedtime as a punishment, a child may end up having a negative association with sleep and night time. This will ultimately inhibit their night time independence, which let's face it, ultimately inhibits with your night time independence (television, house work, husband/ wife time, WINE!).
