Before the ghosts and goblins get the best of you, make sure you and your family are prepared and safe this Halloween. Parents Ask experts Kimberlee Mitchell, Dr. Scott Cohen, and Dr. Cara Natterson offer these key tips for ensuring a safe and fun Halloween:
Kimberlee Mitchell- "Keep your kids safe while Trick o' Treating!"
-Avoid buying costumes with masks
-Carry flashlights and carry glow in the dark items
-Teens should go in groups and in mom-approved neighborhood
-Children should never approach stopped cars
-Parents be on your toes!
Scott Cohen- Costumes and Excitement can lead to accidents
-Bring first aid kits with you while trick o treating
-Sprained ankles are common accidents - if this happens- head home!
-Notify your doctor if injury gets worse throughout evening
-Bottom line for children: walk don't run!
Cara Natterson- Halloween Candy comes with rules!
-Do not open or eat any candy that has been tampered with
-Establish limits but be flexible
-Okay to let children pick out a few candies to eat that evening
-After Halloween, they can have 1 candy each night- small and bite size.
-After the week, candy gets tossed! (Children "who need it" don't actually need it!)
