Violence has no place in the family. It is not OK for you toddler's father to hit you, and it is not OK for you to hit your toddler.

Spanking only reinforces in your child an aggressive/violent response . After all, they are modeling from you, so if you are responding to their mistakes by spanking, that is how they will begin to resolve their own problems...

A recent study came out that shows that spanking a child before the age of 2 not only makes him more aggressive but (gulp) less intelligent. I would look at the book "How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk."

i do not spank at all. i am trying to teach my kid not to use his physicality to achieve his goals. if i spank, he will accuse me of being a hypocrite.

I say absolutely not! Use your words. I highly recommend the book, BEYOND TIME OUT. I swear, no book has helped me more than this with controlling not only my child's behavior, but my own as well.
