Laurie David, producer of An Inconvenient Truth (and as she credits herself, "the ex-wife of a famous curmudgeon comedian") is working on a new book about the importance of family dinner and how to accomplish it so that you and your kids can connect - and stay connected - in a meaningful way.  Sadly, in these over-scheduled, modern times, the family meal seems to be going the way of the dinosaur.  But Laurie, along with prominent chefs and nationally acclaimed parenting experts will be sharing her stories and secrets about how to keep this tradition alive and well (and why it is so very important!)

Won't you join her with your own stories from the front lines (or should we say, front burner)?  If you do, you'll have an opportunity to be included in this ongoing dialogue and be a part of the book coming out next year.

It's simple, just  answer these few questions and Laurie will be in touch.

1.What are some of your challenges getting your whole family to the dinner table?

2.What are some of the rituals/rules you have around dinnertime?

3.When your kids grow up, what will be one of their “food love memories” from their childhood?

4. Do you have a favorite family recipe that your kids get excited about when they know you are making it?

Thanks for sharing!

1.What are some of your challenges getting your whole family to the dinner table? Like, there are just the three of us so there's no challenges. 2.What are some of the rituals/rules you have around dinnertime? Rituals? It's, like, dinner, not church. Only rule is to have good manners. 3.When your kids grow up, what will be one of their “food love memories” from their childhood? I think it will be, like, the fun of preparing the meals together more than sitting and eating them together. 4. Do you have a favorite family recipe that your kids get excited about when they know you are making it? Braised buffalo, cowboy style, if I'm making it. Anything stir-fried in the wok 'cause the kid gets to stir-fry.

Hi Laurie! I love this idea! Here are my answers: 1) Biggest challenge - wrangling all the kids and husband to be home on time. With different schedules and afterschool classes, it's getting harder and harder to get everyone home at the same time. Another challenge is the food itself - picky, picky eaters in my family so there's a lot of cajoling that has to happen to get my kids to eat. 2) Hate to say it, but we don't have that many rituals! I try to bring up topics that all ages and stages can relate to and participate in a conversation about. 3) I think my kids will remember the theme dinners (which I guess is a ritual!) we have - we go all out - japanese, mexican, italian. Everything but native dress! 4) Favorite recipe would be a chicken soup with dill. Hope this helps. - Ellie
