It’s hard for pregnant women to avoid the message: GET A SWINE FLU SHOT. Yet according to reports, only one in seven women are stepping up and getting immunized. To up these numbers, the World Health Organization released a new report today again urging pregnant women to get flu shots along with other high risk groups, especially as winter weather begins to encroach upon the northern part of the world.
Numbers should speak louder than words: Over 5000 people have died from the swine flu virus and those in high risk groups such as pregnant women and young children, are subject to very severe disease or outcomes. In the Ukraine alone, 250,000 flu-related cases have been tallied, along with 70 deaths, revealing how risk increases as temperatures drop.
