When my daughter was 7 years old, she made a bold proclamation: "Mom, I am a vegetarian."  What followed was our family's attempt to appease her non-meat eating ways, replacing turkey sandwiches with tofu for lunch and  chicken dinners with pasta and assorted bean dishes for dinner.  This went on for several months until her inner carnivore was re-awakened.

"Mom, is 'hamburger' vegetarian?"

"Well, uh, no honey, it's not. It's really NOT vegetarian. It's COW."

Apparently, her desire for meat overtook her desire NOT to eat it and she promptly ordered a burger. And a rare burger at that.  Clearly, this phase (like so many) had come to an end.

This flip flopping doesn't happen with all kids.  In fact, a new study by the CDC reveals that today, at least 1 in 200 families is raising a vegetarian child.  In honor of those in search of information and recipes for their meat- free wee ones, (and just a tad late to celebrate National Vegetarian Month in October!) we decided to do a round up of the best of the web resources:
