The news that 6 year old Falcon Heene was found safe at home, led to a collective sigh of relief heard across the country where many admit to sitting captivated in front of their computer and television screens wondering the poor boy's fate. After the relief subsided however, the speculation began: why was Falcon so afraid to come forward?  Was Falcon's brother guilty of spinning the story of the supposed stowaway flight?  Will  Falcon's parents punish him (and should they?).

We checked in with our Parents Ask expert, Betsy Brown Braun who said "nothing like this happens for no reason " and that no doubt, the story would continue to unfold for days to come.  On the topic of to punish or not to punish, Betsy echoed our belief that fear obviously kept Falcon from coming forward. "The poor kid probably scared himself half to death" and given his state, hopefully "his parents' anger will be contained."

While this is obviously a very unique situation, as a parent, do you see this as a teachable moment --  To enforce the idea that it's better to tell the truth, then perpetuate a lie; that it's better to fess up to a crime than craft a cover up?

Give the child a time out for hiding? I say give that father a time out for terrifying his child rather than parenting him!

I admit I haven't been following too closely (so I may be missing some key details), but it seems like the parents need the timeout for 1. not locking up their "huge balloons that can take off in the sky" (like Beth said) 2. calling the media when they called the police

That boy needs a time out for hiding! But good lesson for parents not to lock up their "huge balloons that can take off in the sky".. Come on - what kid would not want to just take off in that?
