In January of 2009, Stork Craft Manufacturers recalled over 500,000 cribs for faulty metal support brackets. Today, add to this 500,000 TWO MILLION more being recalled for threating the lives of children across the US and Canada according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The problem is that the side of these cribs, when the plastic attachments loosen, can create a space large enough for a baby to slip through. While drop-side cribs with metal hardware are not included in the recall, all drop-side cribs will be phased out.
So what are parents hoping to put their little ones down for naps or to sleep for the night to do? Well, the short answer is wait. Stork Craft will provide a free kit to anyone who owns one of the recalled cribs, recommending that only after the installation of this kit should the crib be used. While there will certainly be a large number of cribless babies seeking another spot to sleep (mom and dad's bed bolstered properly?), this recall seems to have come just in time and gives parents one more thing to be thankful for this Holiday week.
